The image was created as a "tribute to the game that started it all," and demonstrates an in-game moment with the assassin Basim about to hit the enemy with a hidden blade in a jump.

A similar scene, but with Altair's participation, was captured in the illustration for the very first part of the 2007 franchise.

"Before celebrating the end of an amazing year, we created a new in-game wallpaper by Assassin's Creed Mirage to pay homage to the game that started it all. . . ..

Assassin's Creed Mirage will unfold in 9th century Baghdad and tell about Basim's past from Valhalla.

The project should be a return to the roots of the series with an emphasis on stealth, murder and parkour. There will be no role-playing mechanics in the game.

The project is announced for release in 2023, but so far without an exact date. According to one of the Romanian retailers, the release may take place on March 9.
