Being one of the key series on PlayStation, Call of Duty helps Sony not only to sell consoles, but also to invest money in the development of its own studios.

The loss of such a series can hurt the overall financial performance of the platform holder and negatively affect its ability to regularly release expensive exclusives and innovative projects.

This effect is particularly unfavorable for players and the industry, Sony representatives noted in a comment to the UK Competition and Markets Authority.

The PlayStation team believes that no agreements with Microsoft will be able to fully protect it from the loss of Call of Duty in the long term.

Actions to promote the series through the Xbox Game Pass or advertising new shooters exclusively in conjunction with Xbox consoles can also hurt Sony and lead to a decrease in the popularity of its platforms with all the consequences.

Against this background, PlayStation does not want to sign any contracts with Microsoft and is promoting the idea of banning the deal.

The documentation also once again notes that it is impossible to create a full-fledged Call of Duty competitor.

These games are very popular, created by teams of several thousand people and can boast huge budgets.

According to the latter parameter, neither Sony exclusives nor most games from leading publishers can compare with them.

At the same time, Call of Duty is released every year and sells tens of millions of copies. Platform holders receive a percentage of the revenue.
