The action-adventure God of War: Ragnarok was planned from the very beginning as a PlayStation 4 game.

Bruno Velasquez, Director of Animation at Santa Monica Studio, told Eurogamer about this in a new interview.

According to Velasquez, the team initially knew that "Ragnarok" would be created for the old Sony console, because they wanted to support the fan base and did not plan to throw players who liked the last part on PS4.

The goal of the developers was to surpass God of War (2018) in every possible way and make the best game for PlayStation 4, squeezing the maximum out of it.

As for God of War: Ragnarok in the PlayStation 5 version, Velasquez described it as "the cherry on the cake", which due to the tactile feedback of the DualSense controller, 3D sound, higher frame rate, improved graphics and textures will make the passage even more enjoyable.

"As an animator, I like a higher frame rate — I want to see as smooth movements as possible.

As for God of War: Ragnarok, we knew from the very beginning that it would be a game for PS4, because we wanted to support the fan base — we had so many supporters who liked the [last] game on PS4.

Our goal was to surpass God of War 2018 in every possible way. The PS5 version is just the cherry on the cake.

So, our goal is to make the best game for PS4; to push for quality, content, to finish the story that we started — all this was our main task.

PS5 is tactile feedback, 3D sound, higher frame rate, better graphics and textures. It's like the cherry on the cake.

Of course, the PS5 will be the best way to enjoy the game, but the [version] for PS4 will be one of the games that will squeeze the console to the maximum.

Adopting this philosophy and approach helped us define a goal for ourselves: we wanted to make a great game for PS4 and even more great for PS5."

Some players who received a press copy of the project have already begun to share their feelings about the performance of God of War: Ragnarok on PS4. The release will take place on November 9.
