In June 2021, Microsoft announced a cooperative Contraband game about smugglers for PC and Xbox Series S|X, developed by Avalanche Studios (Just Cause, Mad Max, Rage 2 series).

Later it became known that the production of the project began in 2018, however, despite this, nothing more has been heard about it since the announcement.

This naturally led to questions about whether the game even exists and whether it was quietly canceled.

Nevertheless, two journalists with proven contacts in the industry at once stated that Contraband is actually still in development.

One of them, Windows Central editor Jez Corden, tweeted that the game was "not abandoned," and Insider Gaming co-founder Tom Henderson then confirmed that the game "still exists."

Earlier, Microsoft announced that it plans to hold a presentation in June, where developers are expected to talk about games coming to Xbox over the next 12 months.

At the same time, Contraband does not even have an approximate release date at the moment.
