Polyphony Digital has revealed the sales of the series for a quarter of a century

The Gran Turismo series has been one of the major PlayStation franchises since the original game was released on PS1 in 1997.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the series, CEO of Polyphony Digital Kazunori Yamauchi spoke about the history of the creation of the series and shared the sales figures of Gran Turismo over the past quarter century.

In the PlayStation blog, Yamaguchi said that for all the time since the creation of Gran Turismo, it has sold more than 90 million copies.

Despite the fact that racing is a relatively niche genre, the series has regularly been on the platform's bestseller lists and remains one of the most popular PlayStation franchises to date.

In March of this year, Gran Turismo 7 was released for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles, although specific GT7 sales figures are not disclosed at the moment.
