The PlayStation 5 leads the sales of consoles in Japan for the second week in a row, confidently ahead of the Nintendo Switch, according to Famitsu.

Between January 30 and February 5, local stores sold 93,000 PlayStation 5 units, the second-highest total in the history of the platform since its launch in 2020.

The sharp increase in sales is due to increased supplies from Sony. For the first time, the PlayStation 5 has appeared freely in stores - you no longer need to participate in lotteries and stand in lines to buy it.

At the same time, the demand for games remains extremely low - there is not a single PlayStation 5 game on the physical chart, although in a quiet period it is possible to get there without any problems - tenth place this week has only 4,000 copies sold.

Presumably, this situation is due to the fact that part of the consoles sold in Japan is not intended for Japanese players, but goes through resellers to China, where there is still a shortage of PlayStation 5.

The entire chart for the reporting period consists of the usual games for Nintendo Switch with Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet at the first line. Next week, the sensational western RPG Hogwarts Legacy should shake the top.
