Bungie Studio is working on reviving its old Marathon shooter series from the 90s, writes Tom Henderson.

According to an insider, the new game is in development at the pre-alpha stage and will be a shooter based on a squad of three people.

It is reported that the events of the new Marathon unfold on the planet where the disappeared human colony was previously located, and now the remaining few people use this place to collect loot with the help of cyborgs called "runners".

The gameplay of the project should be similar to most loot shooters: players choose equipment, a mission and go to the map, where they hunt for loot and complete tasks, and then evacuate.

In case of death, all the collected loot is irretrievably lost. According to Henderson, Marathon should become an "ultimate model of live service."

Seasonal rewards and progression will be an important part. The game will be Bungie's first non-Destiny development in more than a decade.

It is assumed that the announcement can take place at any time.
