It's been quite a while since the last Gears franchise project, but there may be some movement in this direction soon.

According to observational users, on September 23, Microsoft registered a new trademark Gears of War with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

It is not uncommon that game developers re-register and renew trademarks of existing IPs, but often this happens in parallel with upcoming releases and announcements.

Interestingly enough, the series is listed as Gears of War in the brand name, although the company has not officially used this name for a long time in favor of the abbreviated Gears, under which Gears 5, Gears Tactics and mobile Gears pop! were released.

This may have something to do with the Gears of War remaster collection, which is rumored to be in development and should be something like the Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

The Coalition, responsible for franchise development, is currently engaged in several games, the closest to launching is a more compact and experimental title for the new IP.
