According to well-known insider Jeff Grubb, Nintendo may release a conditional "Super Switch" instead of Switch 2, which will extend the current generation of Switch.

On the air of Kinda Funny Games Daily, Grubb cited the example of the Game Boy Color, which was released nine years after the appearance of the original Game Boy and extended the generation of the portable system until the appearance of the Game Boy Advance in 2001.

The Game Boy Color was distinguished by the presence of a color screen and received dozens of exclusives, but Nintendo summed up its sales with sales of the original Game Boy line.

Grubb noted that the new Nintendo hardware will definitely surpass the Switch in power — the question remains in positioning. "It may not be Switch Pro or Switch 2, but something in the middle. . .

It will definitely be a more powerful platform in terms of hardware, but the question is positioning.

The Switch audience is very active, buys a lot of games, pays for a Nintendo Switch Online subscription . . . Nintendo may try to stretch the Switch generation."

A day earlier, Grubb said that the new Switch could be announced at the end of 2023 — there are a lot of such rumors in industrial circles now.

He also believes that Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are far from the only games that are being improved for new hardware and will receive appropriate patches.

At the end of 2022, Eurogamer technical columnist John Linneman said that Nintendo canceled Switch Pro and now, most likely, will immediately release a full-fledged successor to Switch.

"As far as I understand from conversations with various developers, at some point Nintendo planned to release an intermediate console, but in the end, it seems, abandoned such plans.

Accordingly, now it is already worth waiting for a full-fledged successor to Switch."

Be that as it may, insiders are also counting on the announcement of new hardware from Nintendo over the next year, concerned about the lack of news about the successor against the background of Switch's transition to a late stage of the life cycle.

Nintendo Switch has been on the market for the seventh year.
