According to the results of the second quarter of the 2022-2023 fiscal year, Switch sales reached 114.33 million consoles, Nintendo announced.
In the near future, the hybrid family will surpass the PlayStation 4 and rise to fourth place in the ranking of the most popular systems of all time after the PlayStation 2 (155 million), Nintendo DS (154 million) and Game Boy (118 million).
Over the past three months, Nintendo has sold 3.25 million Switch consoles — this figure is 15% lower than last year.
Sales to users remained at the same level, but deliveries to retailers declined amid a shortage of components for the production of set-top boxes in the first half of the year.
The company noted that it is working on providing stores with "as many consoles as possible during the Christmas season," but taking into account the results of the first half of the year, it lowered the annual sales forecast for Switch from 21 to 19 million units.
Despite this, Nintendo reported an increase in operating profit for the quarter and exceeded analysts' expectations.
The company also raised its annual net profit forecast by 18%, taking into account high game sales and the weakening of the yen, and kept operating profit expectations at the same level of 500 billion yen.
In the second quarter, Nintendo and its partners sold more than 54 million copies of games on Switch — 13 million more than in the previous one.
The company noted a high demand for both new products and old hits.
The multiplayer shooter Splatoon 3 sold 7.9 million copies in the first three weeks, and the role-playing game Xenoblade Chronicles 3 showed the best start in the series, completing the first quarter with a result of 1.72 million copies.
The second part reached such sales only in a year and a half from the moment of release.
