Sources of Insider Gaming, founded by insider Tom Henderson, have confirmed that the PlayStation 5 Pro is in development and may be released at the end of 2024.
Earlier, the portal reported that a new version of the PlayStation 5 is scheduled to be released at the end of this year, which will receive a detachable disk drive.
It is expected that this model will displace all current PS5S (conventional and diskless) from the market, which will help Sony reduce production and logistics costs.
Insider Gaming clarified that despite widespread rumors, we are not talking about the PS5 Pro model — it will be a completely separate console.
"This is just the beginning of the new hardware that will come to PlayStation users in this generation," said one of the sources, speaking about the console with a removable disk drive.
It is not yet known what technical characteristics the PlayStation 5 Pro will offer, but a recently published patent by PlayStation architect Mark Cerny may suggest that Sony will seek to "accelerate" the performance of games in terms of ray tracing.
As for the next full—fledged PlayStation generation — PS6 - according to Insider Gaming, it is unlikely to be released until at least 2028.
Thus, according to the release schedule, the current generation consoles should be on a par with their predecessors.
