The current generation of consoles is already in its third year, but the overwhelming number of developers still continues to release crossgen games that do not fully disclose all the features of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. If we talk about the differences between these two platforms, the Microsoft console has a more powerful GPU with a performance of 12, 1 teraflops versus 10, 3 teraflops for the Sony system.

According to Tadas Migauskas, designer and producer of the arcade shooter Caverns of Mars: Recharged, for most developers, especially for those who create multiplatform titles, the technical differences between the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X currently do not play a big role, but as they deepen into this generation and new approaches to rendering appear, these differences, he believes that they will begin to influence the development in a more noticeable way.

"You can trace the general trend for games for consoles of previous generations. Developers need several years and one or two games to discover and use the hardware capabilities.

At the moment, the impact on development is still quite small.

An increase of ~15% is quite significant in itself, but both GPUs are so powerful that most developers probably don't even notice the difference between them.

You can just do a little more with one of them. And since most games come out on both consoles, you have to work with the lowest common denominator.

In a year or two, when newer rendering methods are created, it is expected that more rendering work will be done through GPU pipelines.

Then, probably, developers with large resources, mainly AAA companies using their engines, will increasingly try to take into account the difference in these platforms."

Earlier, one of the interviewed developers also expressed his thoughts about the Xbox Series S and the talk that Microsoft's junior console allegedly restrains the current generation.

He noted that he considers this console as an auxiliary choice for those who already have a PS5 or PC, and also believes that over time it will become increasingly difficult to achieve 1440p and 60 frames per second on it in demanding games.
