MediaTek Corporate Vice President Vincent Hu announced this at the Executive Summit event in California.

The chipmaker has developed a custom SoC (system on a chip) for PS VR2, which will be responsible for processing information and tracking controllers.

The company did not announce the details of the processor, only noting that it was made to order for Sony.

The head of PlayStation Indies, Shuhei Yoshida, said that they were looking for a chipmaker that would be able to provide high standards in terms of low latency, low power consumption and high performance.

At the same time, for MediaTek, this was the first experience in creating a processor for VR headsets. At the moment, Qualcomm is the main supplier of chips for devices in the VR/AR segment.

Its processor was also used in the original PlayStation VR. The launch of the PS VR2 will take place on February 22, 2023 at a price of $ 550 in the USA and 600 euros in Europe.
