There are details of the hardcore game Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty - a new game from the studio Team Ninja, known for work on such projects as Nioh and Ninja Gaiden. It is created for the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC, will be on sale in the first half of 2023 and will transfer gamers to the setting of the Trinity era. 

In the interviews that followed the announcement, the developers confirmed that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty would indeed be a soul-like game.

  • Based on the foundation of Nioh, Team Ninja wants to dilute it with new dynamics, control system, as well as original mechanics in the combat system.
  • Trinity setting is well known to Koei Tecmo, a longtime publisher of the Dynasty Warriors series. However, developers from Team Ninja approached this historical period from a slightly different side — users are waiting for a much darker and mythical universe, which conveys the unique flavor of Chinese culture.
  • In many ways, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty grew out of the idea of another sequel to Nioh. After finishing production of Nioh 2, Team Ninja began to look for a setup for the next game and eventually decided to give Japan a little "rest". This is how the idea of the Trinity was born, from which Wo Long eventually grew. 
  • The basis for the Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty combat system should be traditional Chinese martial arts. The developers tried to combine the elegance of fights with the high complexity of battles in the hope of creating bright and memorable action episodes. 
  • Speaking about the dynamics of battles, the developers noted that Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty can be described as something between Nioh and Ninja Gaiden. The new game is noticeably faster than the first project, but somewhat inferior to the speed of the ninja Ryu Hayabuse. There will be no endurance system or mechanics with several combat racks.
  • Along with the lack of endurance, the protagonist of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will also be able to jump freely. These two elements, multiplied by combat mechanics that allow you to quickly switch between attacking and defensive maneuvers, are designed to give the game a very high dynamic.
  • One of the key gameplay mechanics of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be a system of morality. Morality is a special status that has both the protagonist and his opponents. So, for example, by killing a special powerful enemy, the protagonist will get a strong increase in his morality, but this is also relevant in the opposite case — death makes your opponents even more dangerous. According to the idea, this mechanics will endow the game with an interesting balance, where the complexity does not remain static anywhere.
  • In addition to morality, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will also have a more traditional pumping system, but the developers are not yet ready to reveal details about the model of the hero's development and his skills.
  • The structure of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty levels is based on Nioh, but with an important change — there are many more locations in the novelty. Judging by the display press, the developers of the excerpt, players are waiting for large and open spaces for study, the design of which implies the presence of secrets, slices and progressive progression with a climax in the form of bosses. And they were designed taking into account the fact that the protagonist can jump.
  • Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will have its own multiplayer component. How exactly it will be integrated into the main campaign is not yet fully known, but the possibility of cooperative passage of certain sections in the game will definitely appear. 

The developers plan to gradually share the details of the game in the coming months.
