Game designer Glen Scofield spoke to The Verge about the upcoming horror show The Callisto Protocol, which is released on December 2 for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Work on the project began in the desert of Arizona, where Scofield went after leaving Sledgehammer Games. There he created many sketches of new game concepts, 40 pages, which became his return to the horror of survival. The game designer has long wanted to tell a new story. “It's like Ridley Scott — he did Alien and then came back with Prometheus. That's what you like to do. There are not many movies in the genre of science fiction, because they are very expensive to make. It's probably my favorite genre. So I thought, "Let's try to get it back." Glen Scofield According to Scofield, at first he was worried about the similarity of the project with Dead Space. But then he realized that he didn't modern consoles and PCs provide space for creating a more believable gaming world. We are talking about realistic alien monsters, exciting sound design and impressive detail — all this is very important for horror and science fiction. Scofield is a big fan of horror, but he's also got some sort of immunity to scary moments. Therefore, The Callisto Protocol tests and focuses on player feedback to achieve the right level of fear. Fortunately, Scofield is convinced that “the scarier the better.” Things that can scare him (and there is one) will definitely affect the players. By the way, that "how far murders and terrible moments" go don't check — restrictions in it, apparently, the game has no.
