On Wednesday, it became known about mass layoffs at Microsoft, affecting, among other things, such game studios as Bethesda Game Studios, The Coalition and 343 Industries.
Speaking about the latter, Jason Schreier from Bloomberg clarified that the Halo Infinite campaign development team has fallen under heavy cuts.
What this means for the future of the game is not yet entirely clear.
Initially, it was planned that Halo Infinite would become the main platform for the development of Halo for many years after the release, and players would receive not only multiplayer updates, but also story updates.
However, since the release of the game in 2021, there have been no plot updates.
"We have made a difficult decision to restructure our team, which means that some roles are being abolished," Pierre Hintze, head of 343 Industries, wrote in a letter to employees on January 18.
The situation around 343 Industries managed to comment on the former lead developer of the Halo multiplayer, Patrick Wren, who is now an employee of Respawn Entertainment.
He blamed the incompetent management of the studio for all the troubles of Halo Infinite. "There should have been no layoffs in 343, and Halo Infinite should not have been in such a state.
The reason for all this is the incompetent management of the studio, which prevented the developers of Halo Infinite from making Halo better," he wrote.
Schreier added that this is not the first time he has seen such an opinion.
Other employees interviewed by him were also not happy with the management of the studio and the organization of production of Halo Infinite.
