Telltale Games has announced that the long-awaited sequel to The Wolf Among Us adventure is being postponed and will not be released in 2023.

CEO Jamie Ottilie explained that the studio took this step for a number of reasons, but first of all to avoid crunches and not to rush, releasing an unfinished product.

In addition, the developers decided to change Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, which, according to them, has a number of interesting features worth spending extra effort on switching to a more advanced engine and redoing quite a lot of work that has already been done on UE4.

Ottilie also noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the revived Telltale Games faced a number of difficulties inherent in creating a new studio.

After the closed Telltale was re-formed in 2019 by LCG Entertainment, the studio appeared at The Game Awards with the re-announcement of The Wolf Among Us 2, however, by that time the team was still at a very early stage: the game was at the pre-production stage, and there were still about two years left before full staffing.

According to Ottilie, it made sense to announce the game at that time in order to provide funding and support, but he admits that if he had been aware of other impending factors at that time, such as a pandemic, then perhaps a different decision would have been made.

Since then, he adds, work on The Wolf Among Us 2 has progressed well, and the studio is determined to release the best game it can do.

The continuation of The Wolf Among Us will be episodic, but this time the development of all parts is going on simultaneously, so when the first episode comes out, all the others will already be ready.

Currently, the project is expected to be released in 2024.

As for the current year, Telltale is still scheduled to release The Expanse: A Telltale Series, which it is doing in partnership with Deck Nine Games.

In addition, the studio is engaged in the third unannounced game, which is at an early stage of development.
