As part of the Tokyo Game Show 2022, the Japan Game Awards 2022 ceremony was held, which named the best games released on the Japanese market between April 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022.

The main award went to ELDEN RING, and the head of FromSoftware Hidetaka Miyazaki was awarded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan for his contribution to the development of the gaming industry of the country.

Exceptions are awards for game design — they are given out by a pool of Japanese developers with the creator of Super Smash Bros. Masahiro Sakurai as Chairman.

The jury also includes Yoko Taro (NieR), Hideki Kamiya (Bayonetta), Xu Takumi (Ace Attorney) and other well-known developers of Japan.
