Curtiss modified its Curtiss F11C Goshawk fighter, equipping the aircraft with a retractable landing gear and reinforced metal wings.

Despite the good speed performance, the aircraft became less maneuverable due to the heavier weight.

Nevertheless, the naval command placed an order for a small batch of fighter-bomber modifications, designated BF2C-1 Goshawk.

During trial service with the VB-5 squadron on the USS Ranger aircraft carrier, the fighter reveals serious issues with the landing gear, due to which it was soon decommissioned from service.

Until recently, the US carrier-based aviation reserve aircraft was the P-26 Peashooter, an all-metal monoplane that was noticeably inferior to reserve biplanes of other nations in terms of maneuverability.

With the release of the next major War Thunder update, the new reserve of the US tech tree will be the Curtiss BF2C-1 Goshawk biplane. Let's take a closer look at it, shall we?

The new BF2C-1 is one of the most advanced biplane generations in the history of warfare, combining the signature biplane maneuverability with a good speed performance, which can even be even higher than some early monoplanes.

A special feature of the BF2C-1 is the ability to install four 100 lb bombs with a separate drop, which makes the new reserve a great choice for the low rank mixed battles.

Like many other reserve biplanes, the BF2C-1 lacks firepower.

A pair of rifle-caliber machine guns is usually not enough to instantly shoot down an enemy fighter with a short burst, while heavier aircraft will most probably require several attacks.

However, the huge ammunition load of machine guns and good cooling of the barrels make it possible to pray-and-spray, while sticking on the enemy's six o’clock.

You will be able to test the new American navy reserve aircraft in battle, or even start studying the excellent lineup of the US aviation with the new BF2C-1 in the upcoming major War Thunder update.
