A comparison of the survival horror The Callisto Protocol between the consoles of the current generation and the past appeared on the network.

The ElAnalistaDeBits channel showed the differences in the graphics on the video and highlighted the main differences.

On all PlayStation consoles, the game works in dynamic resolution using temporal frame reconstruction.

PS4 is limited to 1080p and 30 frames per second, PS4 Pro runs the game at 1440p at 30 frames per second.

There are two modes on the PS5: 2160p and 30 frames per second with retrace or 2160p and 60 frames per second.

In PS5, compared to PS4 and PS4 Pro, lighting, textures, geometry, shadows, post-processing effects, particles, drawing distance and ambient occlusion are better.

At the same time, visually, the version for pastgen, despite numerous simplifications, still looks good.

The performance mode on the PS5 is characterized by a lower dynamic resolution, on average close to 1872p.

The quality mode on the PS5 contains better shadows and ray tracing on some reflective surfaces, although SSR is still used for the rest of the reflections.

PS4 and PS4 Pro are experiencing some texture loading issues, especially when starting the game.

Problems with the frame rate in cutscenes affect all platforms, but old consoles suffer especially from this. All Xbox versions also use dynamic resolution scaling with temporal frame reconstruction.

On the Xbox Series S, the game runs at 1440p at 30 frames per second, whereas the Xbox Series X offers modes of 2160p at 30 frames per second or 2160p at 60 frames per second.

Xbox One did not participate in the test. The performance mode on the Xbox Series X also has a lower dynamic resolution, close to 1872p on average.

The scaling in the tested areas is the same as the PS5.

At the moment, there are no ray-tracing reflections in quality mode on the Xbox Series X, which is most likely caused by an error, and not by any restrictions.

The Xbox Series S version does not use retracing and has some cuts in the quality of textures and global lighting.

The PC version at the time of the review needed an urgent patch due to constant statters. Yesterday, the developers solved this problem in an update.

Testing on all platforms was carried out with the patch of the first day.

The author calls The Callisto Protocol one of the most visually impressive games on Unreal Engine 4, however, he believes that the improvements offered with ray tracing are not so significant as to justify the absence of 60 frames per second on consoles, so he himself is more inclined to performance mode.
