Assassin's Creed Red developers brought in consultants from Japan for “cultural authenticity”

Axios reports with reference to two sources in Ubisoft that the development team of the upcoming Assassin's Creed Red, which is taking place in feudal Japan, has engaged consultants and local studio staff to achieve cultural authenticity and accuracy.

Stephen Totilo notes that some Western projects based on Asian culture have been criticized in recent years.

However, it is not yet clear how Ubisoft consultants — internal or external — will be able to influence the development of the game.

The publisher does not disclose details or name names in the development team, but it is led by the Canadian Ubisoft Quebec, and headed by creative director Jonathan Dumont.

Assassin's Creed Red was announced on September 10.
