Nintendo has released the first commercials of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Japanese region — they consist mainly of fragments of the final trailer and demonstrate the possibility of passing the game in stationary, desktop and portable versions.
Japanese journalists note that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom boasts one of the largest advertising campaigns in the history of Nintendo — in terms of the number of banner ads on the streets of Tokyo, promotional materials in stores and commercials on television and in subway cars, it is comparable to the promotion of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Splatoon 3.
Recall that before the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, not a single "Zelda" since The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64 has sold 1 million copies in Japan.
Japanese sales of Breath of the Wild turned out to be absolutely record-breaking for the series and exceeded the mark of 3.5 million copies as of the end of 2022.
This made The Legend of Zelda a franchise of the first magnitude in Japan, and now it is expected that Tears of the Kingdom will sell a million copies in its native region in just one opening weekend.
A powerful start is expected all over the world.
Recently it became known that by the launch of Tears of the Kingdom, 815,000 copies of the game on physical media will be delivered to France alone — this is a new record among all Nintendo Switch exclusives.
At the time of writing this note, Tears of the Kingdom ranks first in sales on Amazon worldwide — from Japan and the USA to the UK, Spain and France.
Earlier this month, an American commercial for the game with new gameplay fragments leaked to the network. Outside of Japan, Nintendo has not yet released the game's commercials officially.
On April 28, Nintendo will release a new Switch OLED model in the design of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The game will go on sale on May 12.
