To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix officially launched a remake of the role-playing action Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. This is not a mistake — the game will really get a remake instead of a simple remaster.

The new version is called Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - Reunion and will be released this winter on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam).

The developers visibly updated the entire graphics, created new three-dimensional models of characters, overwritten the voiceover and added the voiceover to those scenes where it was absent initially, and prepared new arrangements of classical music themes. In addition, they made a number of mechanical changes to the gameplay to make Crisis Core gameplay more "accessible and exciting".

Let us recall that the plot of the original Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII unfolds before the events presented in Final Fantasy VII, and tells about the adventures of Zach Fair, the best friend of Claude Stryf and a soldier of the Shinra Corporation, who will have to go through a difficult journey, launching a chain of fateful events that will change the world forever.

The original game was released in 2007 on the PlayStation Portable console.

Here is what the new version looks like against the background of the old one:

Previous actors, including the rock star Genesis Rapsodos, who plays the role of GACT, returned to the voice of key characters in the Japanese version.

  • Zach (Kenichi Suzumura)
  • Anguil (Kazuhiko Inoue)
  • Genesis (GACT)
  • Sefirot (Toshiyuki Morikawa)
  • Iris (Maaya Sakamoto)

Curious fact: Suzumura and Sakamoto are a couple in real life, and they recently had a baby.

In the English version there will be changes in part of the cast. The full list is not yet available, but Zach is definitely not voiced by Rick Gomez, who worked on the original Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.
