"We need to move on": CD Projekt explained the rejection of further support for Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One

Developers from the Polish CD Projekt RED explained their decision to discontinue support for Cyberpunk 2077 with new content on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This is due to the reluctance to compromise when creating the plot extension "Ghostly Freedom" — it will be large-scale, and the authors need the power of new consoles to implement everything conceived.

The studio is convinced that it leaves the Cyberpunk 2077 on the old set-top boxes in good condition — including technical ones.

"We believe that the Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is now in good condition.

Now it is time to switch your attention to other things, starting to move on, "the company said in a statement. Recall that patch 1.

6 for Cyberpunk 2077 was the last major update for Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One. The large plot addon Phantom Liberty will only be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The development of extensions for older systems has been abandoned by developers "not easily". Nevertheless, the studio promises to provide fans on the old consoles with "technical support".

"We will continue to provide players [on the last generation of consoles] with the necessary technical support, as with all our past releases," the developers note.

Recall that the launch of the Phantom Liberty extension for Cyberpunk 2077 is expected in 2023.

In addition to the addon, the developers also plan to improve various systems and aspects of the basic game, including police mechanics, previously criticized.
