The development of the sequel to the Cyberpunk 2077 role—playing game by CD Projekt RED studio, codenamed "Orion", is at the earliest stage - the project can only reach the full pre-production stage in 2024.
As explained by Finance Director Peter Nelyubovich, now all the major CD Projekt RED groups involved in the development of the Cyberpunk universe are engaged in the production of Phantom Liberty — the first and last story expansion for the original Cyberpunk 2077.
As soon as the addon development process is completed, a significant part of the specialists will be transferred to the development of the fourth "Witcher", when, as a small team, they will seriously form the general concept of the continuation of Cyberpunk 2077 — this should happen in 2023.
As noted by Nelyubovich, if everything goes according to the planned scenario, the sequel Cyberpunk 2077 can go to the pre-production stage only in 2024.
Accordingly, the imminent release of this project is out of the question. The main focus of CD Projekt RED now is the further development of the universe of the Witcher line.
Both The Witcher 4, which will launch a new trilogy, and a remake of the original The Witcher, in which a full-fledged open world will appear, are in production.
Both games are created on the Unreal Engine 5 engine for modern consoles and PCs.
