Ninja Theory studio cost Phil Spencer's team $117 million. This information was disclosed as part of a lawsuit between Microsoft and the US Federal Trade Commission.

The deal was finalized in 2018.

At that time, Ninja Theory was known for creating games such as Heavenly Sword (Sony), DmC: Devil May Cry (Sarsom), Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (Bandai Namco) and Hellblade — the latter she published on her own.

Under the wing of Microsoft, the studio is working on several new projects, including Senua's Saga: Hellblade II for Xbox Series X|S and PC — it will be released in 2024.

Ninja Theory is far from the most serious gaming purchase for Microsoft. The corporation gave $7.5 billion for Bethesda and seeks to buy Activision Blizzard for $67 billion.

Sony's Xbox competitors paid $229 million for Insomniac Games and $3.6 billion for Bungie.
