The Call of Duty series will return to the Nintendo console after the completion of the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, announced the head of Xbox Phil Spencer.

The American corporation has assumed obligations to Japanese partners, according to which Nintendo will receive Call of Duty for at least 10 years from the moment Activision Blizzard joins Microsoft.

Interestingly, Nintendo, unlike Sony, has not expressed any dissatisfaction with Microsoft's plans to buy Activision Blizzard and has never depended on Call of Duty.

However, Phil Spencer says that Xbox wants to develop a popular series of shooters on all platforms — by analogy with Minecraft, so it should be a nice addition for Nintendo.

“Microsoft has made a 10-year commitment to release Call of Duty on Nintendo consoles, which will take effect upon completion of the deal with Activision Blizzard,” Spencer said.

“Microsoft strives to release games for the widest audience — regardless of people's platform preferences.”

According to Spencer, the development of Call of Duty for Switch will begin only after Activision Blizzard becomes part of Microsoft, so the next game may not be released on the Nintendo console at the same time as the PlayStation and Xbox versions.

However, the plan is to release new games on all consoles and PCs at once in the future.

When asked whether it is realistic to make Call of Duty work on Switch, Spencer referred to Microsoft's experience in supporting a variety of platforms using Minecraft as an example.

There are separate development groups focused on supporting specific systems, and in the case of Call of Duty, this experience should come in handy.

It is worth noting that in the generation before last Activision released new Call of Duty even on Wii and Nintendo DS — separate teams were responsible for these versions.

The last part of the series on Nintendo consoles was Call of Duty: Ghosts — it was released in the fall of 2013 on Wii U. Spencer also offered a 10-year warranty for the release of Call of Duty on PlayStation, but Sony has not yet responded.

We are talking about a legally executed document.
