At CES 2023, the Japanese company Aromajoin introduced the Aroma Shooter device, with which players or viewers will be able to smell in real time in virtual reality, movies or anime.

The AromaPlayer program allows you to "digitize flavors and create a new communication channel in the family, which includes text, images and audio."

A demonstration of the technology at the exhibition can be viewed in the video below. It is worth noting that the basis of Aroma Shooter are solid-state materials, not gas or liquid.

Aromatic cartridges are inserted into the device, of which there are more than a hundred different options to choose from.

For example, visitors to CES 2023 could launch Quintessential Quintuplets and feel the aroma of cherry blossoms, grapes and peaches, and the smell of smoke, caramel, coffee and cloves appeared in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

A desktop version of Aroma Shooter was brought to the exhibition, but in the near future the authors will start raising funds to create a wireless version for VR/AR devices.

However, there is a problem: the device will be too expensive — Aroma Shooter 2 with six aromatic cartridges will cost customers $ 998, and new smells will have to be purchased separately at a price of $ 54 apiece.
