Last year, Sony acquired Bungie for $3.7 billion as part of a new initiative to develop game services.

At today's investor meeting, the company gave a clearer picture of how Bungie is participating in the new PlayStation online gaming segment.

According to the head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hulst, Bungie and Sony are involved in a "strict" verification process of 12 games-services that the company plans to release by fiscal year 2025.

"The experience that Bungie has brought has proved to be very significant in many areas.

Obviously, when you develop service titles, you have opportunities that are not available when working on single-player story games.

These features that we created at PlayStation Studios came about thanks to Bungie's guides and help. Now we have a deeper understanding of how to achieve success in the live service.

Historically, our games have a clear ending, but the release of live services is just the beginning, so the approach to their development is very different and entails a completely new set of performance indicators.

We are also working with Bungie on a rigorous review process for all 12 game services that are being worked on."

Hulst's comment appeared just after reports that Sony had allegedly canceled an unannounced multiplayer game for PlayStation 5 from the partner studio Deviation Games, where a staff reduction had taken place shortly before.

It is possible that the project of this team did not pass the test that Hulst is talking about.
