Christina Ricci to star in Netflix's Wensday — actress to return to Addams Family 30 years later

Christina Ricci, who is best known for her role as Jr. Addams in Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 film, joined Netflix's Wensday cast. What role Ricci will play remains unknown: producers want to surprise fans of the franchise.

According to Deadline sources, this will be a new character, not an adult version of Wensday. However, about whom it is a question employees of the edition don't specify.

Wensday will talk about the heroine's growing up and her studies at Nevermore Academy. The film will be directed by Tim Burton (Corpse of the Bride, Evard of the Scissor Hand). The lead role will be played by Jenna Ortega (Iron Man 3, You). Gomez Addams will be played by Luis Guzmán ("Nights in his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones (“Terminal”, “Chicago”).

According to Burton, the show will be a detective comedy. Filming is scheduled to be completed by the end of March. Wensday's Netflix premiere dates are still unknown.
