Almost five years have passed since the last part of Pirates of the Caribbean was released. In 2020, it was reported that a new film in the series was being developed with Margo Robbie in the lead role.
However, fans of the franchise are wondering if there is a real possibility that Johnny Depp may still return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow.
In a conversation with The Sunday Times on the occasion of the premiere of "Top Gun: Maverick", producer Jerry Brookheimer clarified that the studio is currently working on two scenarios of the new "Pirates", one of which is written under the star "Suicide Squad", and the other - no. As to whether Depp's return to the franchise was possible, the producer replied as follows:
"Not now, it's a matter of the future."
Depp said he wanted to say goodbye to his famous role in the next part of Pirates of the Caribbean, but after publishing an ex-spouse false accusation, Disney fired him from the franchise, and he no longer wants to deal with the franchise even for a lot of money.
