Media: Major Hollywood film studio is considering the possibility of returning to Russia in the summer

According to the "Bulletin of the film distributor", one of the major Hollywood film studios is considering the possibility of resuming the distribution of its films in Russia in July.

It is noted that representatives of the unnamed distributor are already talking about this topic with some local cinema chains, but so far the negotiations are unofficial. However, the resumption of screenings will still depend on the timing of the end of the special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine. As long as it continues, no one will return to the Russian market.

According to "BK", last month one of the majors already predicted two options for the development of the situation: it was expected that at best the rental of Hollywood films would be restored in May, at worst - releases in Russia would be postponed for six months. The distribution of their films in Russia in March was suspended by all the big Five of Hollywood, which include Disney, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, Universal and Paramount. In early April, Lionsgate also announced a temporary withdrawal from the Russian market.

Meanwhile, representatives of cinema chains report a reduction in halls and a record drop in fees over the past five years. Cinemas are asking for support from the state. Otherwise, they face a massive reduction in employees and closure entirely.
