After the success of Joker , it seemed like a sequel would only be a matter of time. Although officially Warner Bros. still did not make an announcement regarding the continuation, the project, apparently, is moving.
Heroic Hollywood, citing an insider with knowledge of the Joker sequel, reports that Warner Bros. officially received the first draft of the script and will begin filming the film in 2023 . Plot details have not been revealed.
The original Joker was directed by Todd Phillips from a script he wrote with Scott Silver . Phillips will once again co-write the sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter last year.
The first reports of a sequel appeared in the fall of 2019. Then It was reported that Warner Bros. had already begun talks with Phillips and Silver to produce Joker 2 , but the director later denied the rumor, stating that he came out of nowhere and that there was never actually any meeting with the studio to discuss a sequel. At the same time, he and Phoenix noted that they were open to a possible continuation, especially since the original idea included a trilogy.
Joker was one of the biggest hits of 2019, grossing over $1 billion worldwide on a $55 million production budget. The film also won two Oscars , including Best Actor and Best Original Score.
