Sony Interactive Entertainment has halved its plan to supply PlayStation VR 2 for the starting quarter — instead of two million helmets, they now hope to implement about one, according to Bloomberg sources.

The forecasts were adjusted after receiving the first data on the volume of PlayStation VR 2 pre—orders - they turned out to be disappointing for the manufacturer.

Current figures show that a large growth of the virtual reality segment is not expected in the foreseeable future.

According to Bloomberg, Sony has already notified partners about the likely decline in orders for displays for PlayStation VR 2 in the next fiscal year, which will begin on April 1, 2023 and end on March 31, 2024.

During this period, the company allegedly wants to sell only 1.5 million helmets for PlayStation 5 in addition to a million in the starting quarter.

The figure can be adjusted in the future depending on demand. The reception of pre—orders for PlayStation VR 2 started in November 2022 - today the helmet can be easily booked in large retail chains.

Analysts note that the device seems to many consumers too expensive, and its game line is not attractive enough. “The current VR helmets are very bulky and expensive.

It is difficult to encourage users to use them on a regular basis.

The platform is not attractive to leading game developers because it does not promise high sales," said Kenji Fukuyama, an analyst at UBS Securities. Sony declined to comment on the publication.

The PlayStation VR2 premiere is scheduled for February 22. In Europe, the helmet starts with a price tag of 649 euros.
