Fourth quarter records:

  • PlayStation 5 — 6, 3 million (2023)
  • Nintendo DS — 5, 81 million (2008)

The fourth quarter, that is, the period from January to March, is usually quiet — it follows the Christmas one.

However, in the early years of the PlayStation 5, there was a serious shortage of consoles on the market, and they were able to deal with it only by last fall.

From that moment on, Sony dramatically increased shipments around the world, and users who had not been able to buy a console for a long time were finally able to do so.

In total, Sony sold 19.1 million PlayStation 5 consoles by the end of the fiscal year, and 13.4 million of them were sold in the last six reporting months.

Total PlayStation 5 sales as of March 31, 2023 reached 38.4 million.

PlayStation 4, according to the results of the first ten quarters since the launch, was at the 40 million mark — the gap has almost narrowed.

In the coming fiscal year, Sony plans to sell another 25 million PlayStation 5 units, that is, by March 31, 2024, the total sales of the current generation console should break the 63 million mark.

Other data from the report:The number of PS Plus subscribers at the end of the fiscal year was 47.4 million — it has not changed compared to last year.

The average monthly number of PlayStation Network users has reached 108 million people — an increase of 2 million compared to last year.

Sales of games for PS4 and PS5 for the last quarter amounted to 68 million units — this is 2.5 million lower than a year earlier. 70% of copies are sold in digital format.

Sony games accounted for 9.5 million copies — 5 million less than in the first quarter of last year.

In 2023, the PlayStation 5 will receive such high-profile exclusives as Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy XVI.
