Sony announced the start of testing the new PlayStation 5 firmware, which will add a number of nice features. The main ones are support for 1440p resolution and a system of folders for sorting games.

The update will be available later in 2022.

PlayStation 5 users have been asking Sony to implement full support for 1440p monitors since the console was launched in 2020, and now this request will be implemented.

At the same time, the company noted that VRR will only work at 1080p or 4K. The update will also allow PlayStation 5 owners to sort games in the library by folders (or game lists, as Sony calls them).

You can create up to 15 folders with 100 games in each. The update will also offer a number of other innovations.

For example, players will now be able to better understand the difference between stereo sound and 3D — the system will allow you to listen to both options on the example of the desired game and choose your preferred one.

The exact timing of the release of the update is not yet named.
