According to Tom Henderson, the new PlayStation 5 model with a removable disk drive will begin production in April 2023 and will go on sale in September of the same year.
Insider sources also add that Sony plans to ship another 30.5 million PlayStation 5 units to the market in the next fiscal year (from March 2023 to April 2024).
At the same time, only 12 million of them will be the share of the current version of the PS 5, since its release will allegedly be completely curtailed by the 2023 holiday season.
It is assumed that the new design of the PS5 with a removable drive is being done in order to reduce production costs, since instead of two different models of the Sony console, only one will need to be produced, differing in the package with and without a disk drive, which can be purchased separately.
It is expected that the cost of a removable drive will be approximately equal to the difference between the current PlayStation 5 in digital and standard versions, that is, about $ 100.
