An updated version of the Rise of the Triad shooter from Apogee Entertainment, New Blood Interactive and Nightdive Studios was announced at the Realms Deep 2022 presentation.
The remaster is called the Ludicrous Edition and is transferred to the KEX Engine from Nightdive.
Features include support for 4K resolution with original sprites and textures, an increased field of view, 60 frames per second, cloud storage, achievements, an updated user interface, a multiplayer with multiple modes, the ability to choose a soundtrack from the original game or rebutt, as well as restored cut content and a new original story episode created by veteran developers.
The classic Rise of the Triad was released in 1995 and was developed by Apogee Games, which soon became 3D Realms.
In the early stages, the project was planned as a continuation of Wolfenstein 3D, but eventually turned into a separate title, telling about the task force H.U.N.T. of five people infiltrating a mysterious and extremely dangerous island full of cult maniacs.
In 2013, the game was relaunched by Interceptor Entertainment, and the original version will be republished in early 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on Steam and Gog.
