Parent company FromSoftware sold 30, 34% of the shares of the developers Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Elden Ring — Sony now owns 14, 09%, and Chinese Tencent — 16, 25%.

Kadokawa says $260 million will be invested in the development of FromSoftware, the creation of new IP and the expansion of publishing capabilities.

At the moment, Miyazaki independently releases its own games only in Japan, while in the West it has to use the services of third-party partners, such as Bandai Namco.

The latter was responsible for the global release of Elden Ring this year.

FromSoftware also wants to continue to attract new audiences, and here the connection with Sony and Tencent can come in handy.

The former has great opportunities to promote console games, and the latter has great capacity to create and launch mobile games in China and globally.

As of the end of June, sales of Elden Ring reached 16.6 million copies. According to rumors, the next game of FromSoftware will be a restart of Armored Core.

In 2021, Sony received 1.9% of the parent company FromSoftware.
