As of September 30, Sony Interactive Entertainment has sold 25 million PlayStation 5 consoles in the world.

This is stated in the report of the Japanese corporation for the second quarter of the current financial year, published today, November 1.

Over the past three months, 3.3 million PlayStation 5 units have been sold — the console sold out in a similar circulation in the second quarter of last year.

PlayStation 4 no longer appears in the iron report.

In the second quarter, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users bought 62.5 million copies of games — 13.9 million copies less than in the same period a year earlier (76.4 million copies).

Sony's own games accounted for 6.7 million copies (a year earlier — 7.6 million). 63% of the games were sold digitally.

In the second quarter of last year, digital downloads from the PS Store accounted for 62% of sales.

The number of PS Plus subscribers is fixed at 45.4 million people — this is 1.8 million less than a year earlier, and 1.9 million less than it was last quarter.

The number of active PlayStation users also decreased by 2 million people.

Revenue of the gaming division increased by 12%, to $ 4.88 billion, and operating profit decreased immediately by 49%, to $ 286 million.

Sony attributed this to increased spending on game development and maintenance of new PlayStation studios, including Bungie, as well as the negative impact of currency fluctuations on overall performance.

At the same time, revenue increased due to the recent increase in prices for the PlayStation 5.

Sony has kept the PlayStation 5 sales plan unchanged for the current fiscal year in the amount of 18 million consoles — 5.7 million units were sold in the first two quarters, respectively, 12.3 million more remained to be sold until March 31, 2023.

At the same time, the overall revenue forecast for the gaming division for the year decreased by 12%. Sony stated that games from third-party developers are performing worse than expected.
