When Return to Monkey Island, the sequel to the legendary Secret of Monkey Island and LeChuck's Revenge from the creators of the original games, was announced just over a month ago, some players weren't thrilled with what they saw.

Moreover, as journalists noticed, the creator of the series, Ron Gilbert, said back in early May that the public reaction saddened him.

“The art style of Return to Monkey Island may not be what you wanted or expected, but this is the art style I wanted.

When I started working on the game, my biggest fear was that Disney wouldn't let me make the game I want, but it was great to work with them.

It's ironic that people who don't want me to make the game I want are some of Monkey Island's biggest fans. And it saddens me in the comments."

At the same time, Gilbert noted that he wanted the style of Return to Monkey Island to be provocative and shocking - and not at all the one that everyone was waiting for. The developer thanked Rex Crawl, who is in charge of the art direction of the project, and the team of artists, animators, sound designers, programmers and testers who put their whole soul into the game.

Recall that the release of Return to Monkey Island should take place on PC this year
