According to Variety, Justin Lin's departure as Fast and Furious 10 director is now costing Universal a hefty financial loss of between $600,000 and $1 million a day.

As previously noted, the studio is in talks with several candidates and hopes to confirm a new director as soon as possible. With Lin, who retained the positions of producer and co-author of the script, the parting allegedly went "amicably".

As for wasted money, there's nothing you can do about it, as the studio needs to keep the crew in a low-start state. The cost of the delay also depends on the scale of a particular scene that was going to be filmed.

There is another unpleasant moment - Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron and Brie Larson have a rather tight schedule, so downtime may further affect their screen time or, conversely, increase production costs.

Universal could replace Lin with one of the directors who had a hand in the past parts of the series. The problem is that three of them are now busy with other projects, one has gone to another world, and Rob Cohen, who directed the original Fast and the Furious, was accused of sexual harassment a few years ago.

Another option is to take an experienced second-tier director, since the participation of a person with a big name in the project will most likely result in script revisions and, accordingly, additional time and costs.

In theory, even the candidacy of Vin Diesel does not seem impossible, since the actor has long been a producer of the franchise and periodically influences the plot. If not for his pressure, then Jordana Brewster's Mia Toretto would not have appeared in the tenth part.
