Epic Games has released the first pre-build of Unreal Engine 5. 1.

The updated version of the engine is already available for testing to developers. Unreal Engine 5.

1 Preview 1 features improved performance when using Lumen, Nanite and Virtual Shadow Maps technologies, which now have support for 60 frames per second on PCs and consoles of the current generation.

The first version of Unreal Engine 5 was launched worldwide back in April of this year.

The key new features of the engine are the Lumen solution for dynamic global illumination and reflections, the visualized Nanite micropolygonal geometry system and the new Virtual Shadow Maps shadow mapping method.

Many leading AAA developers are already creating games based on Unreal Engine 5. Amateurs are also experimenting with the engine and sharing their work online.
