Valve has filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for registration of the CS2 trademark.
In total, on March 14, 2023, the company marked four brands with the designation Counter Strike.
They are clearly related to Counter-Strike 2 and the previously registered Counter-Strike Global Offensive.
The document was submitted to the organization amid rumors about the imminent release of a sequel to a competitive shooter.
However, it is impossible to assume with certainty that this will be a new game, and not CS:GO on the Source 2 engine.
Prior to that, esports journalist Richard Lewis reported that Valve had almost finished working on a new Counter-Strike.
Later, Steam found a mention of a test build of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the Source 2 engine. According to Lewis, the beta version of the shooter will be released in late March or April 1.
