Proton is a compatibility layer based on the Vulkan API developed by Valve, thanks to which it is possible to run games developed under Windows on Linux without the need for a virtual machine or a dual loader.

The tool is integrated into Steam Play and allows you to play a large library of Windows games on Linux machines.

To date, its greatest use can be seen in the portable game console Steam Deck, which uses a custom SteamOS based on Linux.

For Steam Deck users, more than 3 thousand games running through Proton have been verified at the moment, and more than 8 thousand games are marked as playable.

The full list can be found on the ProtonDB website.
