The Astronauts studio postponed the early launch of the dark fantasy shooter Witchfire from the fourth quarter of this year to the beginning of 2023.

Creative director and co-founder of The Astronauts Adrian Chmielarz said that the delay is due to the redesign of the combat system, which has gone "from the arena style to open-world combat."

In other words, instead of separate levels, the project will now offer a single large location where players will be able to move freely and, if necessary, retreat when meeting very strong bosses.

"This [open world] feature is 95 percent implemented. It will make the game better.

It's hard for me to imagine that a player didn't have such freedom before.

Of course, you can still fall into a witch trap in one place or another, some doors will be closed until you find the key, and some areas located closer to the bosses are dangerous for an unprepared visit.

But the world of the game is wide open for you to explore it in almost any order, and you will be able to both advance and retreat as you see fit."

The developer also promised to share a fresh update on the game in one or two weeks, but warned that you should not expect a gameplay display.

"Last but not least, expect something pleasant in a week or two. Let's call it Witchfire Halloween Week.

There won't be any gameplay footage, streams or anything like that, but if you're interested in the story, the world and the great 2D art, then you'll appreciate it."

At the moment, the release of Witchfire is confirmed only for PC in the Epic Games Store.
