The upcoming Arkane Studios game called Redfall will be closer to Far Cry than Left 4 Dead.

Creative director Ricardo Bair and studio head Harvey Smith told about this in an interview with GamesRadar+.

After the presentation, the players came to the conclusion that the project resembles Valve's cooperative zombie shooter, since in both cases there are four characters in the game and a cooperative mode in which the heroes have to fight the undead.

However, from the point of view of gameplay, the games are not at all similar — Redfall is more like S. T. A. L. K. E. R., Bair notes.

Instead of separate levels, as in Left 4 Dead, Redfall will offer the user an open world available for exploration. Players will have a separate base where they can talk to NPCs and get side quests.

You can also go to the table and choose one of the story missions or spit on everything and just go outside, starting to explore the environment.

Arkane notes that the world of Redfall significantly exceeds the size of the locations from the studio's previous games. However, compared to other similar games, it is much smaller.

In addition, Redfall does not contain vehicles, so the heroes will have to explore it on foot, which is why the pace will slow down a little. The developers stressed that Redfall can be played alone.

They offer to choose a character at the very beginning, and during the passage it will be impossible to change it.

However, there are no restrictions on using the same character in a team in a cooperative. However, the authors advise choosing different characters to hear unique dialogues between them.

As for the shooter component, Arkane was assisted with the shooting mechanics by DOOM developers from id Software as consultants. Redfall will be released on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2023.

Subscribers of the Game Pass service will receive the game on the day of release.
