PS5 reached two million sales in the UK slower than PS4, but on par with PS3

PlayStation 5 has become the fourth console in the history of the UK in terms of the speed of reaching the two million sales bar. According to GfK data published on GamesIndustry.

biz, it took 98 weeks for the PlayStation 5 to achieve this result. The PlayStation 3 had the same number.

The fastest to reach two million was the Nintendo Wii — in just 57 weeks. PlayStation 2 is in second place (60 weeks), and PlayStation 4 is still in third place (75 weeks).

The PS5 could not surpass the result of its predecessor.

According to the head of GfK Dorian Bloch, if it were not for supply problems, the PlayStation 5 could easily surpass the result of the PlayStation 3, however, another factor worth considering was the higher price of the new console.

At the same time, due to its price list, the PS5 was able to show the highest revenue from sales of two million units among all other consoles.

By comparison, it took the Xbox One 104 weeks to reach two million sales, whereas the Xbox 360 took 110 weeks.

Although the Xbox One was faster, the Xbox 360 still has the largest user base among Microsoft consoles in the UK - more than nine million such consoles were sold during the lifecycle.
