Activision will not be releasing a new installment in the main Call of Duty series next year, marking the first time in nearly 20 years that the franchise will miss an annual release.

According to Bloomberg , the company has made the decision to delay the release of a new game that Treyarch is making due to the disappointing Vanguard . It is reported that after the failure of last year's game, the publisher's management still began to realize that the series was released too often.

Instead of a big new Call of Duty, the company is going to fill the gap with additional content for the Modern Warfare and Warzone sequels coming out this year, as well as another online F2P game .

The year-long hiatus in the Call of Duty series will coincide with Microsoft 's acquisition of Activision Blizzard if the deal is completed as planned by summer 2023. However, Bloomberg claims that the decision to delay the release of the game is not connected with this .

Plus, with Call of Duty making the top-selling console title lists year after year, the sudden absence of a new game next year could have a big impact on the entire market.
