Crowdfunding fees of the space simulator-long-term Star Citizen from Chris Roberts and the Cloud Imperium Games studio overcame another milestone.

According to the official website of the project, more than $500 million has been donated to develop Star Citizen, which is a new world record for voluntary financing of video game production.

In total, almost 4.1 million people have already invested in the space system, which is 700 thousand more than it was 10 months ago.

During the same period, CIG received another $100 million from users, while for the first time the creators were able to reach this figure only three years after the start of the crowdfunding campaign, launched in October 2012.

All users who donated money to Star Citizen receive access to the alpha version of the space simulator, which is updated with new features.

In January, it became known that Star Citizen and its own story campaign called Squadron 42 were still "a few years away" from launch.

According to Karl Jones, the studio's operating director, it may take at least one or two more years to complete the production, but the release will take place only when the games are fully ready.

Also, the developers are already planning Squadron 42 sequels.
